Dog Training For Dummies
Dog Training for Dummies.
Hi and welcome to dog training for dummies, firstly let me say that if you are thinking of training your dog the last thing you can be accused of is a dummy.
As the proud owner of a 2 year old chocolate Labrador called Barney I know the delights of attempting to train a dog first hand and trust me when I say it is not easy.
Now Barney is 2 he is quite well behaved, most of the time, when he feels like it and this is after hours and hours of training work with him.
All dog training should follow the same basic set of principles to start with whether you train guide dogs at a guide dog school as a guide dog trainer or you are just training your new puppy or family dog.
There is no need to invest in expensive equipment such as training collars and if possible try not to train your dog with rewards other than your love and attention.
The dog training for dummies site will take you through a complete course of instructions that will be emailed to you on a step by step basis to help ensure your dog becomes highly obedient and does what you want rather than what it feels like.
The aim of the dog training for dummies step by step newsletter is to build love and trust between you and your dog and get your dog to respect you as it’s natural pack leader.
Here are Our Initial Dog Training For Dummies Tips
- Always be nice to your dog when they return to you. If they have run off and you have been trying to get them back in the rain for a hour the temptation might be to tell them off or worse, but all you dog will associate this with is when it comes to you it gets told off.
- Always use the dogs name to get its attention prior to giving any command and then only give the command once. If you repeat a command the dog will think they only have to do it after the second third or fourth time of hearing it.
- There is no need to shout when giving normal commands to your dog, its hearing will be much better than yours.
- Dogs need exercise, if you do not give them enough they will not respond to training.
- Socialise your dog when you first get them, puppies in particular need introducing to other people, dogs, cats and anything else that maybe around.
- Always praise your dogs good behaviour, although it is tempting to do this with food this should be a last resort in training, additional affection and play should be reward enough.
- Teach your dog new commands but don’t expect it to understand you first time around.
- Training a dog can be hard, expect to invest lots of time and follow our advice and you will get a lifetime of pleasure for your well behaved dog.
